MoMA | Talk to Me

1. Miguel Cruz & Penousal Machado (Portuguese)
"Visualizing Lisbon Traffic — 7 am, 10 am, 6pm"

What first drew me to this project was the aesthetic of it. It's a very interesting way to display something as flat as street traffic in a very organic way that almost resembles the circulatory system. It makes the flow of traffic appear part of a living organism, and the differences in the circulation could have been clots or cholesterol.

2. Stephen Spyropoulos & Theodore Spyropulos (Greek)
"Becoming Animal"

To be completely honest I don't understand the project completely. I understand the concept, in a way, but not the more technical parts. I wish there was a video instead of just pictures so that we could see the interaction between the people wearing the Kerebos masks and how their range of emotions and actions affect the virtual environment in the installation. Still, I'm really drawn to the mythological aspect of the concept, and the interaction between the audience.

3. Joon Y. Moon (South Korean)
"Augmented Shadow"

This project is beautiful in a ghostly sort of way. It plays with light and shadow and makes the characters interact with the movement of the light, following it until they can take some for themselves and light up their homes. In a way, it makes me think of the moon, more than the sun, because of the pale quality of the light. It's a very interesting way of playing with the movement of astral bodies (whether you see it as the sun or the moon), and it touches on the necessity of light itself for there to be light, as the trees will grow around the houses that are lit, and the people will seek out the light to syphon some for their homes once they run out.
