Botanicalls is a program linked up to a plant which notifies the owner of when the plan needs to be fed with the use of moisture sensors. It also tells the owner when it is thankful. This device creates communication between an organism that human's cannot naturally be able to talk to. It personifies the plant. One of the reasons I was intrigued by this project is because it reminded me of Mallory's project in video art where she scanned trees with a pico projector which displayed facts about that specific plant. The use of technology as a medium of communication between two things that would not normally talk is what intrigued me about this project. The next step would be attaching programs to pets to be able to tell what they are in need of and thinking of.

Call Me, Choke Me
By Gunnar Green

Gunner Green created a collar in which was worn around one’s neck and as someone called his cell phone which was digitally connected, the collar would tighten around his neck. I was interested in the fact that the caller was not aware that they were part taking in this project. The person calling the cellphone creates pain to the wearer. Call Me, Choke Me reflects one’s dependence on technology. The person wearing the collar realizes the overdependence of technology because there is a direct effect, the collar getting tighter. Also, the tightening of the color as the cellphone rings creates a sadomasochistic relationship.

Talk to Yourself Hat
By Kate Hartman

This hat created by Kate Hartman directly transmits what the person is saying to their ears. As soon as I read about this project, I thought about the boomerang video we watching in Video Art. The idea of what you say directly coming back to you in an echo makes one lose their train of thought. This project is more about being private in the sense that whatever the person wearing the hat says, it is kept to them. It is a personal outlet for the person wearing the hat.

Glow Cap
By David Rose

I was fascinated by this idea of the prescription bottle cap using a program of light and sound to remind a person to take their prescription. As an art form, it uses programming in as an alert system. It is a way of animating daily objects into ones that can influence people. There creates a communication between an object and the person who uses the object.
