Had a talk with James and Don in the sculpture department. They spitballed and had my mechanism hammered out in all of about 3 minutes. So here it is, I am eternally grateful. These are my sketches because I needed to draw and redraw just to figure it out in my feeble little dome.
One half of the clapper hangs neutrally parallel to the other half which is attached to the wall, raised. A motor rotates a cam shaft that pushes the pivot arm up and when the cam shaft drops the arm, it will strike the wood and fall back to its neutral hanging position.
