Final Project Working Process 8 and the feedback from Critique (James Worthy)
So during critique was great my class mates thought that it was one if not the best final project that they saw this semester in out sensors class. I was so excited that people thought it was a good concept and a good design. Charlie said he could really feel the emotion of aloneness and wanting for none to bother it. He said the sound that it made really worked. other students said that the sound reminded of hissing or of like a computer booting but that it worked well with the concept of people shielding themselves and having this defense mechanism. It was asked why it was black and why were the propellers black. I said it was suppose to be a concealment and a camouflage because it didn't want you to get by it any way and the motor aspect was suppose to make you not want to stay by it when you did get by it. one student said that the culture on the top really drew you to want to see the intricate detail in it. (the wire and yard sculpture on the top that resembles the head of the creature to me). Also the thought that maybe if the metal sculpture covered the entire box that would really feel like it was caged in. and if it had some smaller yarn pieces that would blow better when the motors span. one more thing it that if there was sharp metal pieces that would really deter people from coming close. I took careful note of that and I do want to include those things to the piece.

Final Project Process Work 6 (James Worthy)
Trying to solder for the final critique. So it worked but in the same way it didn't work. The first time I solder it didn't work at all. The second time I soldered it with the IR Proximity Sensor made the motors run but they just ran without any person triggering the IR sensor. So I had to put it away and just use the bread board but I wanted to put this up to make sure that you knew that I tried to solder a perf board so I would not have the big bread board on the final project. But I think I did a great job at hiding it on the back. If i just but a black cloth on the back then you won't be able to see any of the electronics on the culture at all. So Im real proud of it.
I only soldered one motor on it the second time I did a perf board in order to see if the circuit worked.
The first perf board I threw away without thinking about taking a picture of it. Sorry about that. When I saw that it didn't work I went back to bread board in order to make sure that it worked properly.

Final Project Process Work 5 (James Worthy)
This is my final project final design. This is the first drawing and then the idea of how to make it in the wood shop. attached to this post is a big picture and then subsequent drawing that I later drew to step out what and how to make it so that they could help me properly in the wood shop.
Here is the final design drawing that displays all of the things that the sculpture consists of. Well to the best of my ability.
4 DC Motors would have material on them to make them look like fans or pourparlers or something like that. I wanted to have spikes or something to really say don't touch or get next to me.
String or something to vail the project that would blow when the motors started to run.
Wires and hardware on the back to be concealed from people coming up to see it.
The IR sensor would be kind of hidden from sight but also in a position so that it can pick up the motion so that the motors could run.
A shelf to hold the arduino and other stuff like the board and battery with a hole that allows the motors and other wires to hang down flat on the board. and a sculpture on the top to look like a head and something to make people want to come up and look very close.

I had another Idea about how I wanted to look. I figured I would make it into a creature. This idea didn't take off the first time I tried. Here is a drawing that I made to try and understand it. It doesn't look good and I started to doodle all over it but I feel like I should put it here any way. It was suppose to look like a small creature with arms that had the motors for the hands and like a tail with the motors on it.

I originally wanted it to hand on the wall at eye level or something like that. It was suppose to look like a crazy bed of trees or something that would go crazy if you was to go close to it. it was still gonna be black because thats always the aesthetic I wanted for the project. So it would be on the wall and when you walked up to it it would go crazy and start twisting and turning to annoy you so that you would want to leave it alone. All it wants to do is be alone.
But when I saw how I wanted it to look I started to wonder if It would be more subtle and hiding. I really wanted the hardware to be more hiding. SO I came Started to think of another way of presenting it.

Final Project Process 1 (James Worthy)
What Ive been wanting my project to be is a thought about people.
I see a lot of people to be people who put up a wall of there are trapped in a box. They try to hide them selves and when someone gets close to them they react and try and blow them away. They put up these walls to try and protect themselves. They act like lizards who have camoflaudgye abilities trying to hide themselves and put off anyone who try to get close. So for my project I want to create a sort of abstract creature who does what it can to drive people away but also who hides itself in a wall of protection, afraid, and try to set boundaries so that when people cross them it communicates that it doesn't want to be bothered.
I would like the color to be black. I think black is the share color of hiding because when something is dark you can't understand it or want to try and get close to it. But I also want to have a part of the piece that makes you want to go up to it. Because if you don't want to go up to it at all you won't have it react and tell you to leave.
I want to use LED, SPEAKERS, and MOTOR. When I talked to charlie he told me to get the motors to work since they were the most important part of the piece and then if you get them to work then I can try and get the speaker and the LEDs trying to work.

1.What is an example
of a semiconductor device?
Some examples of semiconductor materials are silicon,
selenium, and germanium. Semiconductors are materials that act between a
conductor and an insulator. They are made into semiconductor devices like
diodes and resistors.
2.Why is silicon used
in the manufacture of semiconductors?
This is because refined silicon has purity at almost 100
percent, which makes silicon an ideal candidate for the manufacture of
semiconductors. Silicon can be combined with other elements in order to
increase its conductivity. This is helpful when making different levels of
semiconductors.
3.Discuss the
difference using an example of the difference between and N-type and P-type
semiconductor.
N-Type: an N-type semiconductor material has elements that
have spare electrons. This gives them free electrons, which are negatively
charged which can move freely and have the potential to create a current.
P-Type: a P-type semiconductor material has elements with
fewer electrons. These have holes that are free to move within the material
with the potential to create current as well.
4. In your own world describe what a diode does and the role of N and P type semiconductors.
A diode has an N type on one side and a P type o the other.
N types are negative and P types are positive
5. What is rectification?
Rectification is a property that allows the electrical
current to flow in only one direction.
6.What causes color in an LED? Give and example of what causes a particular color.
The wavelength of light emitted depends on the raw material
of the semiconductor. This creates the various colors of light seen. For
example aluminum gallium indium phosphide is used to make red, yellow, and
orange types of light.
7.What is the relationship between base current and collector current in a transistor?
In a transistor the base current changes the amount of the
collector current in the flow. The base current is when current flows from the
base to the emitter. The collector current is when the current goes from the
collector to the emitter. The transistor enables the collector current to
become greater than the base current.
8. What are the advantages of a transistor over a switch?
A transistor won’t get worn out as easy as a switch. You don’t
have to touch a transistor its pretty much a contactless switch. The control of a transistor can be finely
tuned because it can be turned on and off rapidly.

is the relationship between heat and electricity? Please provide a metaphor.
When electricity flows through a resistance
heat is produced. The heat produced in this way is called joules heat. I would
look at like this if you have this metaphorical friction that happens when
electricity goes through a resistance then you have heat being given off just
like when squeeze something from a tube.

Why
is it warm near an incandescent light bulb?
Its warm around a light bulb because of the
thermal energy that is emitted from the object from the resistance of energy
going though it that heats up the object (the light bulb). These are called
thermal emissions.

What
is a superconductor? What are they used for in real life? You may have to look
this up. How could one make a metal a superconductor?
A superconductor is a material that has no
electrical resistance. It has a near
perfect ability to conduct electricity. This means a metal that is
superconductor would have a floe of electricity within it that would never
degrade the material. Tin is an example
of a metal that is a superconductor. It is a type 1 superconductor with a
critical temperature of -269degrees Celsius and -457degrees Fahrenheit.
To make a metal a superconductor it would
need to be cooled down past a certain critical temperature.

Ampere’s law Is the creation of circular
magnetic fields around a wire when an electric current flows through it.

If
current of the same size flows in the same direction in two electric wires
placed side by side, what happens?
Is this happens then the two electric
magnetic fields generated by the two wire will combine to create one larger
magnetic field and will result in the to wires to attract one another.

Then the opposite thing will happen and the
two magnetic fields retract each other.

electricity.
I didn’t have the materials to create static electricity but
I do know that a common way to do it is by rubbing a balloon on your skin and
watching your hair stand up. It a good frictional way to get static electricity
this is also called triboelectiricity.
I also like to use the example of a static shock by way of
friction like on a rug and then touching another human’s skin or the doorknob.
2. Contrast the speed of an electron with the speed of electrical motion in one sentence.
The speed of an electron is that of less the 1% of the speed
of light but its still pretty fast, electrical motion moves relatively slow
like the slowness of water flow through a water hose.
3. Briefly explain the relationship between resistance and energy. Use an example from your house.
Resistance is what hinders the flow of current or electrical
energy. The load of the energy makes the light come on in my home and the
resistance helps to make sure the right amount of energy is being put out from
the energy source in order for my light to come on.
4. What is the difference in AC and DC current? Give and example of each from your daily life. If you get shocked,
AC is alternating current, the current is able to go
clockwise or counter clockwise. Example would be like the power lines connected
to your house so you can plug your appliance to the outlets. DC is direct
current; this currents direction all goes the same and its constant. A battery
would be an example of a direct current.
5. Determine the equivalent resistance of a 6.0 Ω and a 8.0 Ω resistor if …
a. … Connected in series.
6ohms + 8ohms = 14ohms
b. … connected in parallel.
1/6ohms + 1/8ohms = 3.4ohms
