I think elements of our project are rooted in old slapstick comedy tactics.  During the era of silent films, many of the entertainment was purely visual because they could not rely on the delivery of dialogue for comedic relief, etc.  They had to emphasize and hyperbolize visual comedy and communication.  Similarly in our project idea, we are utilizing a comedic slapstick approach with the work.  It references the old gag of tricking someone into thinking that they have found money, when in fact they have not.   The fact that it will be installed in gallery space and that there will be no other human at the end of the line speaks about mechanized functions and communications that are characteristic of this era.
