MoMA Artists

This should have been posted sooner.
The first artist I picked from the MoMA exhibition was Doug Aitkens piece: Sleepwalkers. http://www.moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/10 Doug displayed large projections on eight of the exterior walls of the MoMA. The display was the first to bring art to MoMA's exterior walls. The projections show the 'nocturnal journey' of five people: a bike messenger, an electrician, a postal worker, a businessman and an office worker. I really like projections on strange surfaces, especially walls with crazy textures like the sides of buildings.

The second artist I chose was Olafur Eliassons 'Take Your Time' http://www.moma.org/interactives/exhibitions/2008/olafureliasson/#/works/
Olafur has been one of my favorite artists for quite a while now, he does a lot of work with color, light, and the elements and nature. This work is just several images of his previous work. Some of my notable favorites are 'I only see things when they move' and 'Beauty'. In Beauty Olafur has a wall of mist being dropped with lights projected through the mist. By walking around the room, you see incredible colors from the light reflecting through the droplets of water. You don't really experience the full work until you walk around the room that Beauty is installed in and look at the light from all of the angles Olafur's makes his artwork about the viewer by placing you inside the piece.

The artist that I presented on was actually from the Talk to Me website. The artist is Jaakko Tuomivaara and the piece is Hide & See.
MoMA | Talk to Me | Hide & See
She frame mounted LCD screens to look like pictures on the wall, but the pictures have subtle messages hidden in them. One example was of a portrait of a girl, and as the girl missed telephone calls, spots would appear on her face, like birth marks. And if she missed important calls, like from her parents/significant other, the dots appeared red and around the mouth. The piece really talks about communication, and messages. A message like this is without language barriers, it tells the viewer a piece of information without saying a thing.
