rains response

If the Apocalypse were to come to Gainesville I believe that our apartment would still have the lowest electric bill possible... We rarely turn the air on or the heat there is most often no one home so the air would stay off depending on the time of day the apocalypse came? We make sure all the lights/fans/tvs/kitchen utensils and general electronic devices are turned off before we all leave the house so those would be off as well. Actually the only electronics in my room that would still be running would be my alarm clock, which i imagine would continue running until it just died, and my electric razor dock. Which has broken numerous times with me maintaining it so id give it less than a year before it broke down as well. The situation actually reminds me of living through over a dozen hurricanes down in South Florida. We would try our best to not use too much electricity because of our crappy generator, and living in the boonies meant we often went a month or more without electricity. Hopefully you get apocalypse days like we did hurricane days when i was in school.

With ever evolving technology and science, it is reasonable to believe that this situation of a "smart house" is quite near in our future. I do however believe it will be a while before humans catch up to technology and choose to have a house that maintains itself and does everything for them. Leading a life where you are free of responsibility to maintain a home seems to defeat the purpose of a home itself. But listening to my grandparents talk they had to make some big changes as well as technology developed leaps and bounds just within their lifetime.
