p36-80 Manga Questions

1. Document yourself creating some static electricity and post to blog. Use the triboelectric series to decide which materials to use to generate static electricity.

From the triboelectric series, I chose to use human hair to generate static electricity, which is on the positive polar end of the series.

2. Contrast the speed of an electron with the speed of electrical motion in one sentence.

The speed of an electron is very slow compared to that of electrical motion, which is equivalent to the speed of light.

3. Briefly explain the relationship between resistance and energy. Use an example from your house.

Depending on the load in a circuit, the resistance converts electric energy into another form such as light or heat. For instance, a lightbulb converts electric energy into light energy or an electric stove converts electric energy into heat energy.

4. What is the difference in AC and DC current? Give and example of each from your daily life. If you get shocked,

The direction of the flow of current is always changing in AC and in DC the direction of the flow of electricity and the size of the current are fixed. If you get shocked by AC, you'll feel a tingling sensation, but if you're socked by DC, you'll feel a pricking pain. Electricity from an outlet is AC and electricity from a battery or power supply is DC.

5. Determine the equivalent resistance of a 6.0 Ω and a 8.0 Ω resistor if …
a. … connected in series: 14.0 ohms
b. … connected in parallel: 3.45 ohms
