talk to me artists

En)tangled Word Bank

Greg McInerny

This piece is so stream-lined in its aesthetic, yet composed of a myriad of component parts. I find it pleasing aesthetically and clever in its representation of the growth and development of scientific data and evolution of thought (survival of the fittest).

The Big Red Button

Russell Davies

Commercials - all I can think about when seeing this is the Staples "Easy" button. But isn't that the point of buttons, levers, etc, to make life easier, tasks simpler.  Giving attention to this electronic interface and its role is a nice way to illuminate its internal paradox of invisible everpresentness.

Transgenic Bestiary

Nicolas Myers

This project is interesting to me in a few ways. First, its closeness to an idea I wanted to explore, but was unable to decide how to start such a large undertaking. Secondly, its relation to genetic engineering and the possibilities of designing creatures or designing life in the future. Especially the fact that it operates with a goal of creating viable creatures, accentuating a combination of creativity with scientific necessity/limitation. It also reminds me of an exhibit that was mentioned on "RadioLab: So Called Life" at a natural history museum that had a similar program that allowed children to build their own chimeras.
