Cool articles!

Boingboing:

Brew coffee 19th century style with a balancing siphon
http://boingboing.net/2014/09/02/brew-coffee-19th-century-style.html
I loved the theatricality of this piece. Everything was so over the top but it was also really interesting watching coffee being made in this historical way. I clicked on the link because I saw a housewife-looking woman in heavy makeup and anything involving women in housewife-esque situations always interests me.

An algorithm to figure out your gender
http://boingboing.net/2014/09/01/twitter-uses-an-algorithm-to-f.html
This was really interesting. Twitter is assigning gender based off of a person’s language and not based off of someone saying that they are or are not male/female.

Feeling the buzz: where do phantom phone vibrations come from?
http://boingboing.net/2014/08/22/feeling-the-buzz-the-weird-tr.html
I clicked on this article because it seemed a little silly and also interesting.

We make money not art:

Science Fiction: New Death
http://we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/2014/04/science-fiction-new-death.php#.VAc96ktuFLU
I picked this article because it seemed spooky and I like learning about how people interact with the space around them.

Age of wonder: super intelligence and existential risks
http://we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/2014/03/superintelligence-nick-bostrom.php
Robots are super interesting and I’m always wondering about how we’re relying so much on technology and how that will affect the future of humanity.

Not all documents are records
http://we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/2014/07/not-all-documents-are-records.php#.VAc-8ktuFLU
I’m really interested in how the past and present relate to each other and looking at how people used to do things.

Sparkfun

I chose these articles because people and animals were directly affecting the technology used and I think the relationship between people (and especially animals) and technology is very interesting.
