Maria | Tom Igoe interview
I think that it's effective to have a hands-on approach to physical computing in order to better understand the hardware. The concept should drive the technology to make the piece stronger overall, it also helps when dealing with troubleshooting problems. I disagree that art cannot bring anything important to physical computing, it can if the concept is strong. Collaboration is definitely important, and creating your own business does give one more power over how to create and at what price their product can be sold at. Collaborating can be the hardest part when communication between partners is not strong, so once that's done the planning stage to how whatever it is that needs to be done is what will determine who will do what jobs in that collaboration.

I think Igoe has an interesting background. His theatre interest has shaped his passion for interactive technology. He also seems to be teaching a popular class, i'm glad to hear about students getting excited about the world of art + technology and its courses. It seems like the class is very engineering based without all the complexity. One thing i found interesting was the toys. He said that many of his students work and develop toys after graduating. I though that was cool. Tom Igoe does a lot and has really branched out. He wants everyone to know about hid passion.

Tom Igoe
Tom Igoe's personal background in theatre is an interesting combination with the use of digital media and technologies to connect with audiences. I found it difficult to relate to Igoe, simply because he himself didn't identify with any true area or medium in regards to his work. He is neither an artist nor engineer, yet his work incorporates components of both. He himself describes the need for both mediums in order to form ideas. I did like his thoughts on the process of design – "application should drive the technology." It allows you to be limitless in possibility, though it is unfortunate that you must be brought back to reality based on the hindrances of technology. I also agree that some of the most talented people are those able to create innovative designs without the use of technology to fuel their ideas. I was also surprised to see something so regular as Dance Dance Revolution to be an example of physical computing; the term itself sound super high-tech and complicated, when the reality of it was just simply a melange of good visuals and easy to follow cues.

TOm Igoe article
I liked this idea particularly because he seems to remind me of one of my professors, Jack Stenner. His philosophy that letting students run wild and then finding a piece of technology that works best with their concept. I feel that, similar to Tom, ideas flow the best when you come up with an experimental idea and then worry about how to actually make that process happen later. With sensors, I feel that I'm having difficulty coming up with an idea first as opposed to trying to figure out what I can actually within my realm of knowledge about Arduino. It was cool that he mentioned Dance Revolution to be one of the best embodiments of physical computing. I never thought of it's interface or how it was actually constructed. I kind of wonder how Tom found his way into being halfway between an engineer and artist, even though he doesn't consider himself to be one.

Interview with Tom Igoe
Igoe mentions about the importance of Physical
Computing in curriculum. In which people can learn to understand relationship
between human being to digital word for developing idea, make progressive way, finding
creative idea and learn more about new skill and their application in
technology word to create the impressive works. He also pointed out that the most impressive
examples of physical computing are those has rich input. It was interesting to
me that he also explains the role of art in regeneration, recognize and analyze
of aesthetic and concept in technological works. Indeed, Art should plays as a
complementary role along with a good engineer, social scientist and programmer,
and etc. it should be a perfect collaboration and coordination so that the appropriate
work comes out with a good result. Because for efficiency, it is necessary to have
a team work with adequate skills. In this case, day by day I like the terms of
Art and Technology that how they work each other and how they add the knowledge
skills, concept and how much complement each other.
