DOET ch. 5

What are the six different varieties of slips? Give a real life example of each (not one found in book).

capture errors: i go into my room to get a textbook and come out with a mug i left in there the night before. i wash the cup before i remember what i was originally doing.

description errors: i almost pour oj into my coffee instead of cream.

data-driven errors: i'm calling someone to give them my phone number and instead start to dial my number.

associative-activation errors: i'm waiting on a table, someone asks "how are you?" i say "thank you"

loss-of-activation errors: i open my locker then forget what i was trying to retrieve from it.

mode errors: when opening multiple documents in photoshop, i accidently print the wrong one.


Create a flowchart diagram of the set of interactions a person will undertake when interacting with your groups piece. Where are the potentials for error?

observing the piece/touching the piece/experimenting with different pressures/observe how piece reacts to pressures/

trying to touch frame, thinking its motion/voice sensor operated, not realizing it reacts to different pressures

How do you personally memorize/retrieve information?  Give examples.

mnemonics - I learned "Push Me Down A Slide" to memorize order of operations in math class = Parentheses, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction.

What is the connectionist approach?

Signals that are either positive or negative - your brain "averages" these signals to form a cohesive idea/opinion.

Explain what is meant by the expressions, wide and deep structures and shallow structures. What are the potentials for each or perhaps only one of these types of structure in your group’s project?

Deep structures have a sequence of possible choices, each altering the succeeding posibility. Shallow structures have many possibilities, but not in sequence. The possibilities "reset" after every choice is made.

What activities must a person perform simultaneously when “doing” your groups’s project?

viewing, putting pressure on the piece, listening to reactions
