9/8 - Three Artists Research

1. Marc De Pape

Chime: Scoring the City

De Pape uses physical computing in multiple works. The Chime uses a variety of sensors to turn data about the city into the city's own soundtrack.  Some of his other work also addresses the relationship between humans and technology, like the MND04 which is an examination of human vs. computer memory and eventually forgets data as a human memory would and gives a generalization error.

2.  Matt Roberts

Waves:

Waves Documentation from Matt Roberts on Vimeo.

This work correlates ocean waves and sound waves in a convergence of nature and technology. The projection is captured video from the shaking water in the bowl, making the intangible ocean waves tangible again in smaller form.
His other work, like Wind for example, continues his visualization of real-life weather data.

3. Immaterials Project
Timo Arnall, Einar Sneve Martinussen, and Jack Schulze

Not just one artist, but this project in particular was interesting to me. This group created an apparatus that can paint wifi signals throughout the landscape. The LEDs react to the strength of the wifi signal, and through long exposure photos, create a map of the intangible network around it.
