Questions
1)Calculate how much it costs to use five common appliances
that you use every day in your home for 24 hours. Please let me know the appliance,
its wattage, amps and volts of each appliance and how you calculated cost. You
will need to go to GRU or look at one of your electric bills.
Price per kWh $0.031/kWh via GRU
-Fan
Wattage 40W
Amps 33A
Volts 120V
40/1000 = 0.04kW
0.04W x 24h = 0.96kWh
0.96kWh x 0.031 = $0.02976
-TV
Wattage 223W
Amps 0.1A
Volts 120V
223/1000=0.233kW
0.223kW x 24h = 5.352kWh
5352kWh x 0.031 = $0.165912
-Coffee maker
Wattage 650W
Amps 0.2A
Volts 120V
650/1000=0.65kW
0.65kW x 24h=15.6kWh
15.6kWh x 0.031=$0.4836
-Toaster
Wattage 740W
Amps 0.2A
Volts 110V
740/1000=0.74kW
0.74kW x 24h=17.76kWh
17.76kWh x 0.031= $0.55056
-Washer
Wattage 1200W
Amps 10A
Volts 120V
1200/1000=1.2kW
1.2kW x 24h = 28.8kWh
28.8kWh x 0.031 =$0.8928
2)How many of those appliances can you plug into one outlet
without tripping a breaker? Please do this mathematically rather than through
direct experience.
The Fan, Toaster, coffee maker and the TV can be on the same outlet but any other thing will go over the limit. Because the average limit for the outlets at my apartment complex is 2400W
3)What is the directional relationship between charge and
current?
Electric current is the rate of charge flow past a given point in an electric circuit, measured in Coulombs/second which is named Amperes.
