8/26 HW "August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains"

Ray Bradbury's post-apopocolytic short-story,"August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains," describes a world where machines have outlived humans. The reader realizes from the beginning that something has happened to the humans that lived in this robotic house. The author allows for some discovery  and a hint of mystery as he slowly unravels the terrible reality outside the walls of the house. There is a sad loneliness in the machine's efficient  care-taking. It seems that without the humans, the machines have lost their purpose, but continue to run on a never-ending loop. However, everything must end eventually, and in this story it happens when a branch breaks through the kitchen  roof and causing unstoppable fire. The poor house fights, but it is a losing battle and in the morning the only sound is the one robotic voice repeating the date over and over.
