There Will come Soft Rains - The short story talks about a lone hyper-technological home that stands in the middle of a radioactive city after some cataclysmic nuclear war. The smart home continues to go about it's daily business--cleaning, cooking, entertaining, and announcing the time, although all the tenants have been killed. It presents an interesting idea about the interaction between humans and technology--the technology required human input to be created, but once it's been programmed, it no longer requires human interaction to continue to function. The home is oblivious to the fact that it's functions are wasted, and ultimately, to it's own destruction.
