Led Hat provides dramatic lighting for when you are shrouded in darkness.
(i.e. reverse mask and digital eyeshadow!)
Wear the hat. When it is light, the LEDs are dark. When it is dark, and the world is full of shadows, the LEDs light up, and light up your face. Dramatically. It is a dramatic hat.THat's what my project is supposed to do anyway. The Lilypad Arduino that I used was no longer functional, but the conductive threat works. Please leave a comment about the idea!
I wish this had worked out for you! I think that your idea was solid, but unfortunately the tech did not work out for you. I think you are approaching this the right way though. Doing something simplistic like utilizing a light sensor that reads light information sounds like a good, straightforward way to utilize finicky tech like these old Lilypads, - Shimul
ReplyDeletei wish things worked out for you, i had the same issues with using a sensor. it was pretty ambitious but i have faith that you will get it to work :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully it'll work again but this seems like a cool and intricate project. I like the aesthetic
ReplyDeleteI commend your ambitious efforts, and I like that you made something that aligns with your theme of wearable technology, however, maybe you could have taken this wearable in a slightly different direction compared to lights... maybe using sound, etc, instead.
ReplyDeleteB'aw I'm sorry it doesn't work, the description makes it sound like it woulda been neat as heck! I'm excited to see you try again when you get a working arduino
ReplyDeleteSOOOOOOO UPSET this doesn't work, because it looks awesome. Your stitching is very well done, and even though it doesn't work, your idea (or what I believe it to be) is quite clear, which is a great asset
ReplyDeleteMaria - This would be awesome at night. Very ambitious and see if you can get the new lilypad. Totally worth it.
ReplyDeleteAaron - Sometimes the tech just disagrees with you. I think our lessons from the book do a good job of laying out a good way to approach projects: Start with the most basic step which is simply checking the equipment to be certain it works. I had to revise my project many times over because components did not function the way I thought they would or correctly at all. I hope you will give the dramatic hat another go!
ReplyDeleteJen- I think the interface you've designed looks super promising! Katerie warned that the conductive thread could be really fiddly.. I just think that it needs a thorough diagnosis for what went wrong; that could be a multitude of things with techniques that we haven't really practiced with before. But that said, that's super ambitious and I really appreciate what you were going for. If I can help you figure out your lilypad woes, I definitely will!
ReplyDeletesounds promising! I hope you can get it to work. have you tested it out at all? I'm wondering what the effect on the wearer will be? I have a difficult time seeing when LEDs are shining in my eyes. is ease of wear important to you? or is it suppose to hinder/impair the wearer?

The idea with wearing hat and lightening with words should be great hope to see that works :)
ReplyDeleteKelsey- I wish I could have seen it work. It sounds like a really cool idea. I would've loved to have my face illuminated in a green light! I also appreciate that you tried to use a different medium for this mini project. As soon as you get it working I would like to see.
ReplyDeleteDreezy - It's hard to give proper feedback without seeing it work. Keep working on it! I think your idea is interesting.
